In fact we had SLAAC for many years and just 2 years ago we added DHCPv6 ..that was to ensure fuller client support (since windows and OSX amongst others started to support it) but also because of the ongoing slowness of our kit supporting the growing list of SLAAC extensions to provide DNS/NTP etc values :/
