There was some discussion of this about a month ago, IIRC it turned out to not be easy 
to do.  This is actually a good FAQ item, I took the liberty of adding it to the FAQ.

more general than just on the delete task: When using a fileset the 
<include> elements may match no files. That's all good and fine, and 
correct in many cases, but it leads to unexpected behaviour in the case 
of typographic errors. A warning when an <include> matches no file, 
perhaps with a matching failure flag, could go a long way to addressing 
both the delete issue and the more general fileset usage.
