try running nant with the -verbose option. This will dump the commandline that is passed to mcs.exe. You can then cut and paste that into the console to run mcs.exe directly. If thats failing then its probably somthing weird in either the Maverick code or mcs itself.
are you trying the latest - ie 1.1.1 version of Maverick ? - I'm just grabbing to now to see if I can get the same failure.
