The nightly snapshot is now a nightly build; it just builds from the head. We used to have a nightly tarball but replaced it when we started using a build server.
For the purpose of your branch I think it might be best if you get cvs access so you can manage it. Mitch, is that something you are up for? Gert, Ian, Gerry, does that sound reasonable?
