As I (and perhaps other) see it, emailing is pretty minor task for NAnt. But, of course, feel free to implement better task! Maybe depending on new .net2.0 System.Net.Mail namespace (which directly implements smtp protocol).
I never used NAn't email task, but I use ccnet's (which is basically the same) and I never have a problem with installing OE to the server machine. But, it should be documented as dependancy in nant's documentation. Or atleast add troubleshoot section as ccnet has. You are not the only one, having problems, that's sure.
