Mark,

Running NAnt in debug should at least give you a stacktrace that we can use to
find the cause.

I'm convinced this isn't a NUnit issue, so perhaps we should move this thread
to the nant-users mailing list.

Subject: [Nunit-users] NUnit Failure with net-2.0

Hi,

I'm using Cruisecontrol to automate the running of NUnit tests here. All is
going relatively well, however every so often I'm running into an issue, which
thus far we've only managed to clear by reimaging the box. Restarts don't
quite seem to cut it. :)

For the purpose of environment, I'm running this using NUnit 2.4.6, on Windows
Server 2003 R2 Enterprise, with Service Pack 1. I also have the .NET Framework
2.0 Service Pack 1 installed, and have even tried it with .NET 3.0, to no
avail. I'm using nant 0.86.2898, and have tried with nant 0.85 as well.

When running the tests through the NUnit GUI, they all run as expected. This
is once more with NUnit 2.4.6.

With the nunit-console in my overnight tests, however, they also run as
expected for days, sometimes weeks, and then one day at random - quite often
when nobody has touched the source code or machine in days, the tests won't run
and I'll be presented with this:

NAnt 0.86 (Build 0.86.2898.0; beta1; 12/8/2007)
Copyright (C) 2001-2007 Gerry Shaw
http://nant.sourceforge.net

For more information regarding the cause of the build failure, run the build
again in debug mode.

Try 'nant -help' for more information
log4net: Hierarchy: Shutdown called on Hierarchy [log4net-default-repository]

BUILD FAILED

Failed to initialize the 'Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0' (net-2.0) target
framework.

    The file exists.

]]>

Now, nowhere can I find out which file exists, or why that's a problem, and
furthermore I can't fathom why that doesn't seem to cause a problem when run
through the GUI?

I did run nant in debug mode, but it didn't seem to add much useful at that
point in the process.

Any help appreciated.

Mark Mayo
