I've not had any reply as yet....

The version of NAnt I'm using is the one that comes
with the mono mcs-0.17 download.

building nant was v. easy with rotor on OS X...

To compile I created a response file
ls src/*.cs src/*/*.cs > response.rsp 
and used the following command to compile:
csc /out:NAnt.exe @response.rsp
