Hmmmm.... I think I might have been misled by things I have read, but
the following solution task ended up working properly with a relative
path:

  
        <solution solutionfile="mySol.sln" configuration="debug">
        
                <webmap>  
                                
                        <map url="http://localhost/mySol/mySol.vbproj";
path="mySol.vbproj" />
                                        
                </webmap> 
                
        </solution>
