There is, of course, the familiar path of transferring it to the Apache Foundation, which would require a license change (from GPL to Apache 2.0).
So long as a license change are being discussed, though, why not consider donating the developers of Nashorn's predecessor and namesake: Rhino. <https://github.com/mozilla/rhino>. Latest commit was less than two days ago, and they did a release earlier this year (May 2019). -- Colby Russell
