SUPPORT THE MOHAWK DELEGATION OF KAHNAWAKE AT THE UNITED NATIONS (GENEVA)
Dear friends,
We are writting you this letter to ask for your help and assistance for the
Mohawk Nation of Kahnawakes representatives who took part on the 23rd
Session of the United Nations - Working Group on Indigenous Peoples (WGIP).
As you may know, the Mohawk Nation is one of the six nations of the
Haudenausonee (Iroquois) Confederacy. They attend the United Nations
meeting and travel the world with a Haudenausonee Passport.
This year the two delegates of the Mohawk Nation for the WGIP were Mr.
Kenneth Deer and Thomas Deer. They had a stop over in Paris on their way to
Geneva. On their way in, the french customs at first didnt recognize the
validity of their Haudenausonee Passport but eventualy let them go through
after three and half hours and after giving them an official transit visa
(valid only for one day).
Yesterday, Thomas Deer took his flight from Zürich to Montreal in order to
go back to his community. Arrived in Paris, he has been arbitrarly detained
one night and half a day by the french police at the Charles de Gaulle
International Airport. He has been sent back to Zürich today.
The Mohawk Delegation needs to go back to Kahnawake at the end of this week.
Because France will not accept this time their Passport, they have lost
their plane tickets and need to book urgently new flights departing from
Switzerland on KLM , passing through the Airport in Amsterdam. According of
Cyril, a member of IndiGenève, we need to collect around 2500 Euros.
The CSIA-Nitassinan (Paris) and Incomindios (Zürich) have decided to start a
fund raising in order to help Kenneth and Thomas Deer in booking a new
flight.
We hope that you will be able to financially support the Mohawk Nation
Kahnawakes Delegation .
