Briefing with President of ECOSOC 25 July, New York

At the initiative of CONGO, there will be an NGO briefing with the
office of the President of ECOSOC, H.E. Ambassador Munir Akram of
Pakistan, on 25 July at 16:30 in Conference Room C, United Nations.
Note that the General Segment of ECOSOC will conclude on 25 July, with
the substantive session concluding on 27 July.

  
Sub-Commission on Human Rights Orientation, 27 July, Geneva

CONGO has organized an NGO orientation session on the UN
Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights on 27
July, 13:00-15:00 at the Palais des Nations, Room TBA. The title of
the orientation is "Perspectives on the future of the Sub-Commission
in the context of the CHR Reform process." This orientation session is
designed to give all participants the necessary background information
on the key issues to be discussed during the Sub-Commission on Human
Rights from 25 July ­ 12 August in Geneva.

  
8 August Final Deadline to be Accredited for Information Society Summit

CONGO reminds its member organizations that 8 August is the final
deadline for non-governmental organizations to be accredited to
participate in the World Summit on the Information Society in November
2005 in Tunis, Tunisia.  The third preparatory committee for the
Summit will take place from 19-30 September in Geneva.  For
information on being accredited for the Prepcom and the Summit, please
go to http://www.itu.int/wsis/participation/accreditation/cs.html .
Note that NGOs in consultative status with ECOSOC only have to submit
an expression of interest form.

  
Report on Aid Harmonization and the MDGs Available

The Development Gateway has released a report entitled "Aid
Harmonization: What Will It Take to Meet the MDGs?" . This Report
explores how an unprecedented effort for global cooperation is taking
shape to help reach the goals and includes: interviews with experts;
collections of documents, statistics, and surveys related to global
meetings leading up to the MDG+5 Summit in September 2005; and a
unique section devoted to the "voices" of aid recipients and donors.

UN Report on Internet Governance Released

The Working Group on Internet Governance, established by the UN
Secretary-General at the close of the first phase of the World Summit
on the Information Society in December 2003, has completed it work and
submitted its report on internet governance.  This report will be the
basis for negotiations on internet governance within the WSIS Phase
II, to be held in Tunis in November 2005.  The Working Group was
notable for the high level of participation by civil society
representatives, working alongside government and private sector
members.   The report in all UN languages, along with a background
report, press release and other materials can be downloaded from
