Kay, I just had the chance to read your post.
What I see you as is an "evolved" human. What so many of our ndn brothers
and sisters hate to recognize is that we are all sparks off the SAME
flame.

============================================================ According to Webster's College Dictionary, those words do not
exist. That's correct--there is no such thing. And, it's true.
Although I frequently use the term "halfbreed," there is no such
thing. How can one halfbreed anything??!! Same is true of mixed
blood--blood does not mix--it co-exists. Each component keeps its own
identity.
So...what are we--you and I? We are human beings put here to
balance ourselves between two separate and distinct worlds. Much like
walking a tightrope, at times. The "trick" is balance. Each of us must
find a balance between the worlds we share. For some it is easy. For
others, it can be devastating.
The worst possible scenario is loss
of identity. Which world shall I identify as my world? Which Path shall I
follow? Which spirituality shall I embrace? Easy questions for
full-bloods. Not so easy for the rest of us. And, when we choose, we feel
somehow alienated from the 'other' world. Is it possible to balance
between two separate worlds? I do not know.
What I have chosen to do,
is learn of BOTH worlds and, internalize that knowledge into a 'workable'
environment for me, and only me. But, an environment others may be
comfortable in--if they choose. It's individual choice. But...we have the
choice--which gives us 'advantage' some do not have.
I am
extremely proud of my Red half. And, I am extremely proud of my
Scottish/Irish half. And, the two halves make one whole "me."
I
have been told 'halfbreed' is a wasicu word. What difference does it make?
Why does mixed blood sound better, when neither truly exists? But,
we exist! And we ARE who WE ARE! We are WHOLE individuals, whatever
components co-exist inside. So....be WHO you are.
And, IF you wish
to use either term-- "halfbreed," or, "mixed blood," do it with
confidence, and...pride. Kay
