It's My Air Too
by Jamie Lockard
In the physical world, in which we live, there are four basic elements;
Earth, Wind, Fire and Water. Science claims that there are many more, but I
am really not smart enough to get into that. Of the previously mentioned
four, there are two, which are the most critical in sustaining all life. Any
guesses? Wind and Water are the two I want to discuss. The first series will
be Wind, or air.

Peltier turns 57 years old ... in prison
by Raven Weaver
Leonard Peltier is just one of many political prisoners. He is an artist, a
writer, Human Rights Activist, and American Indian Movement leader. Mr.
Peltier has spent the past 25 years in federal prison. His case being one of
the most controversial law cases in this country's history.

September 12, 2001, marks Leonard Peltier's 57th birthday. Imagine, at this
point, he has spent nearly one half of his life in the federal prison system.

Dollar Coin Should Show Lakota Chief
by David McKenzie <A HREF="http://news.excite.com/news/uw/010831/university-26";>The
Pitt News-U. Pittsburgh</A>
While working at Kiva Han one day this summer, a customer handed me the new
dollar coin to pay for his coffee. This coin, the latest attempt to introduce
a metallic form of the basic unit of our currency, features the Shoshone
Indian Sacajawea, who helped guide Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to the
Pacific Ocean in the early 19th century.

Diabetes Among Native Americans

Native Americans are at a greater risk of having diabetes than anyone. While
almost six percent of the U.S. population has some form of this disease,
among the Native American populations, that number is twice as high.

National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program
by Donna Ennis
Most people, parents, teachers, physicians, even lawyers are not aware of the
legal avenues available to families suffering the results of a vaccine
related injury. More often than not, victims of vaccine related injuries are
told that federal legislation prohibits them from pursuing lawsuits against
the vaccine manufacturer or the physician that administered the vaccine. This
is NOT always correct. Congress has established another source of
compensation for injuries caused by vaccines, the National Vaccine Injury
Compensation Program or NVICP.

Sharks In The News
by Kasey Weaver
Recent media hype about sharks and shark attacks prompted me to write my own
little piece of media hype.

The attacks that have occurred are sad and devastating to the people, friends
and families that have been affected. What I find equally as sad is that so
little knowledge and such high misunderstandings exist about sharks today. On
average each year about 100 people worldwide are attacked by sharks and
approximately 10-15 die. More people are killed each year by lightning. Each
year over 30 to 100 million sharks, rays and skates are killed in commercial,
recreational and shark control fishing. That is approximately 3 sharks every
second or 260,000 every day.

or one with a moral.
