The best thing to happen to mornings since the Sun!
Your morning thought for the day:
Your living is determined not so much
by what life brings to you as by the
attitude you bring to life; not so much
by what happens to you as by the way
your mind looks at what happens.
-- John Homer Miller
Vicki's mom had an idea of what freedom meant to her -- and her flag.

WAVING FREE
"O say can you see..."
Everyone knows and remembers our national anthem. Have we forgotten
some of the words over the years?
Some of us Americans may have become a bit rusty until just recently.
When was the last time we've seen so much patriotism? It certainly wasn't
even this past Fourth of July. Independence Day had just become a day off,
a day of leisure, another "holiday."
So many of us have never seen a war that lasts more than a couple of
weeks. Our senior Americans and Veterans remember them though. They are
the neighbors that always remember to fly their flags on the right
"holidays."
My Mom is one of those seniors that has seen war first hand. She is
American-Korean, and now is so very proud to call this her country, with a
very deep sense of freedom.
After watching the news coverage of the Attack On America for hours,
Mom got up from her chair and went to the closet. There it was -- her
American flag. It was folded neatly in the closet, ready to be displayed.
Out the door she went with the flag in her hand, in a hurry.
As the screen door was closing, it caught the stick the flag is
attached to. Then, we heard the sound. Snap! The stick had broken in
two. Her adult grandson, who was still glued to the television, heard the
noise and got up to see what had happened. After looking at it, he told
his grandma "we'll fix it."
He went back into the house and came out with thumbtacks. He started
to hang the flag with the thumbtacks, as Mom watched on.
Suddenly, she said "No!" She had a very troubled look on her face.
"We can't hang it like that", she said. "It has to wave free. My flag
has to wave free in the wind -- it reminds me of my freedom. If we hang it
with thumbtacks it will remind me of what these terrorists want -- to
restrain my freedoms. I will not restrain my flag. Let it wave free, let
it wave free in the wind"!
God Bless The United States Of America and all that we stand for!

FROM OUR MAILBAG
Dear Heartwarmers:
Thank you for your loving messages. They always brighten my mornings.
Many years ago, when I was a child during World War II, I used to listen
to Don McNeill's Breakfast Club on the radio. In every broadcast, he would
have a moment of silence, preceded by, "Each in his own words, each in his
own way, for a world united in peace, bow your heads and let us pray."
Those words stayed with me all these years, and now I see how appropriate
they are today. Let us pray for justice, not revenge. I shall "send
beauty" as I go through my day.
-- Micki
Dear Heartwarmers:
My values have changed as a result of this tragedy. I used to think
that a clean, clean house and just the right clothes for my kids was it. I
know now, after our wake up call, that my time with my children is more
valuable. I have always known that, but it was pushed aside at times. I
pray that God continues to give me the strength and wisdom to keep this new
focus. This tragedy has made the people of this country better people --
we are pulling together instead of fighting amongst ourselves. That is a
true blessing. I think it is wondeful that our nation is pulling towards
God and not away from Him.

Dear Heartwarmers:
As a supervisor for a local community college in a suburb of
Cleveland, I get to hear stories from many professors about their students
and their own children. This morning, when I arrived at work, one of them
approached me. Knowing that I am a former Marine, she told me a story that
proves young people CAN make a difference. Her 9 year old daughter asked
last Friday if she could run a lemonade stand to benefit the Firemen and
Policemen in New York. She thought it was cute and said okay. So, her
daughter and her three friends baked cookies, and made fresh squeezed
lemonade for the weekend and set up their stand. When the weekend was
complete, these future leaders of our country had collected over $230 to
send to New York. In this time of sadness and sorrow, the heart of America
is still positive and giving. We can be dented, but the metal of
Americans, young and old, cannot be crushed. May God Bless America, and
have mercy on the souls of those who have perpetrated this unspeakable act.

Dear Heartwarmers:
I was so touched when I read yesterday's Heartwarmer. I have 2 young
children, and I struggled amidst the tears and anguish to compose myself
when my girls came home from school. When I explained to my kids what had
happened, my youngest daughter, Bethany, age 7, took out a piece of paper
and wanted to write a letter to the hurting families in NYC. While I was
preparing dinner, she asked me how to spell a few words for her. When I
looked at her paper, it had GOD LOVES YOU on the top, with some beautiful
pictures of flowers, sunshine, and a rainbow dripping with tears. She
wrote two simple sentences that came straight from her heart: "I am sad
too" and "Jesus is taking care of them." She couldn't understand why I had
tears in my eyes as I read it and then addressed it to the NYC Mayor.
Sometimes, it takes children to bring us to our knees and to make us all
realize just how precious our gift of life is.

Dear Heartwarmers:
Of all the many poems and sentiments I've read and even written myself
since the tradgedies, Daniel James' story yesterday, Message From A Hero,
has touched my heart more than anything. It made my heart soar as though
I'd been in the arms of the angels with dust covered wings myself, and
learned to fly above all that's happened. Seeing the things below grow
smaller and smaller as the realization of our purpose here becomes larger
and puts things back into focus and into a clearer perspective. Thank you,
thank you, thank you for the peace that these words have helped bring to me
and to others. I pray that Daniel James will be blessed, and that he will
find a way to get this message out to the entire world... it is so
DESPERATELY needed now.
-- Rev. Marilyn <not2alone @ netzero.com>
Dear Heartwarmers:
Thanks to Daniel and his wonderful words. I live about 25 miles from
NYC and have many friends who work in or near, and several who are fire or
police officers in NYC. A local radio commentator today referred to the
the smoke and dust as the ashes and dust of angels, so his comments struck
home. I was blessed to not have anyone hurt in this awful time, at least
physically. We are all hurting now, for the lost and for our country. We
can only pray for true peace. Thanks.

Grace says: Mollie, 3, has learned to write her name from watching Carrie
form various letters. One night Jane was praising Mollie for making such
nice "M's." "This is really good, Mollie," Jane said. "You have a big 'M'
and a little 'M.'" "No," Mollie piped up. "This is a capital 'M' and a
lower case!"
