Its been a sad day but still with merit as I sit here this evening remembering my friend Joe. Joe was not First Nations as a matter of fact he was Italian. I met him over two years ago and he felt, like me that though white he could still right things that had been made wrong in Indian Country. He was a founding member of our Peltier Group, worked powwows and yard sales to raise awareness and funds for Leonard's cause, traveled with me to Pine Ridge and when I was to march for Camp Justice I told him to keep a low profile, but he snuck into an alley at White Clay so he could be sure I was all right. Then he comforted an elder that had lost her home from the tornadoes. He always said that that trip was one of the most memorable of his life. Joe died last Thursday and I know that he was a friend who was asking questions and learning more about what he could do to set things right....and I miss him.
