Job Description POSITION: Low-Income Heating & Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Program Assistant II Salary Range: $21,000 - $25,500 Per Annum SUPERVISOR: Executive Director REQUIREMENTS: AA Degree, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Education or related field. A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Excellent oral, written communication and interviewing skills are essential. Computer proficiency, knowledge of File Maker Pro 5.5 and word processing programs. Ability to handle high volume/multiple task work environment with attention to detail and meet deadlines. Must have knowledge of and ability to relate and establish a working rapport with diverse American Indian tribes and communities as well as state, federal, and public agencies. This position may require some travel. Applicant must have reliable transportation, a valid California drivers license, and adequate insurance. In accordance with PL 93-638, preference will be given to qualified American Indians. RESPONSIBILITIES: The LIHEAP Program Assistant will be responsible for providing services to program clients including initial eligibility determination. Specific duties include: a.) intake and eligibility determination; b.) assisting clients with the application form; c.) referring clients for additional energy services; d.) maintaining client files; e.) data entry; f.) processing client files for payment of energy services; g.) making payment arrangements with utility companies; h.) distributing informational materials . The LIHEAP Program Assistant will be responsible for developing and maintaining positive working relationships with clients, tribes, and energy companies. This includes keeping accurate and current records of all clients served, energy payments, and referrals. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to: submission of monthly program activity and other required reports; business correspondence; development and maintenance of filing systems. Additional job related duties may be assigned as required. This is a grant funded position.
