Dear Fellow Citizen: In two weeks on September 6 the Virginia Board of Conversation and Recreation will meet to decide whether or not to take 23 acres of Federal public land, in Occoneechee State Park, to install a private Sam Snead golf course, while cutting down 100 year old hard wood trees and leveling this virgin sacred rolling hills and disturbing our resting Native American ancestors. At this time it is nearly a done deal, however, we can stop this act of desecration with a few signatures from a lot of people showing strong public opposition. We are finding that over 90% of the local people that we have talked to strongly oppose this action and hardly any citizens outside of the area support giving away their federal land for a private golf course. However, we need to get our voices heard. Imagine giving away a piece of the Grand Canyon to be greatly modified for the profit of a few.
