Contact: Andr� Cramblit [EMAIL PROTECTED] 21st ANNUAL NORTHWEST INTER-TRIBAL GATHERING & ELDERS DINNER Eureka, September 18, 2002: The Public is cordially invited to attend the 21st Annual Northwest Inter-Tribal Gathering & Elders� Dinner on Saturday, November 16, 2002 at Redwood Acres Fairgrounds, 3750 Harris Street, Eureka, California. The gates will open at 10:00 a.m. The Gathering is an annual event established to HONOR ALL ELDERS, regardless of ethnicity. It is an opportunity to pay respect to all Elders, our link to the past and bridge to the future. The main feature of the gathering is the traditional Salmon dinner cooked over an alder wood fire. A full turkey dinner will also be served. A special honoring and gifting of all elders in attendance will begin at 3:00 p.m. The Elders dinner will be served from 12 Noon to 5 p.m. There is no charge for entrance to the Gathering. The dinner is free to all Elders (Age 55 & Over). For those under 55 a $6.00 donation for dinner tickets is requested. Traditional Tribal dances will be performed all day starting at 11 AM. Wiyot, Pomo, Tolowa, Yurok, and Aztec groups will all be presenting their dances. Last year over 2500 people attended the event. The Grand Entry for the Social Pow will begin at 7:00 p.m. The event will conclude at 11 PM. Invited Drums are Redland Singers from Portland, Oregon and the all woman Drum Mankillers. Pow Wow style dancers representing many Tribal Nations will be participating. Social dances will provide an opportunity for spectators to participate as well. This event is sponsored by The Northern California Indian Development Council but relies on the assistance of community partners and volunteers to help make the day a success.
