Florida AIM again Condemns Berryman, vote for Berryman is avote for the Klan.
NorthPort, FL –The American Indian Movement of Florida (Florida AIM) again condemns the statements made by North Port City Councilman Rue Berryman regarding Native peoples and Arabs at recent North Port municipal meetings.
Mr. Berryman,according to published reports stated regarding the US war on terrorism, “Who do you think we are fighting out there? Indians? Or Cats and Dogs?”
Mr. Berryman on Monday September 30th stated that all Arabs pitch tents, and leave trash in their wake in the middle of the night.
In October 2000 Mr.Berryman made racist remarks regarding American Indian people for which he issued an insincere and poorly worded apology claiming his racist statements were taken out of context. Berryman noting Indian activists were not present at an impromptu city council meeting on the fate of an Indigenous burial site said, "If they were here we'd have to worry about them scalping us with their tommyhawks(sic)" and other similar statements. Florida AIM both confronted Berryman and protested outside of North Port City Hall.
There can be no question that Rue Berryman is a bigoted, racist individual who would be more appropriately representing the Invisible Knights of the Ku Klux Klan than a municipality in Sarasota County, FL.
Mr. Berryman has done a grave disservice to the good people of North Port, FL by misrepresenting the community, to thenation, as the dark racist backwater underbelly of Sarasota County Florida AIM applauds City Commissioners Joe Fink, and Barbara Gross for expressing outrage at the racist who is not worthy to share a podium with these human beings.
Florida AIM calls upon the citizens of North Port to recognize that a vote for Rue Berryman is a vote for the Ku Klux Klan. We again urge the good people of North Port to mount a recall campaign to remove this cancerous lesion called Rue Berryman from the city commission, which represents them.
Unlike two years ago, Florida AIM is now forming an AIM Support Group in North Port which will focus its attention on, among other items, this effort.
Florida AIM will also meet with various Arab-American organizations to consider further actions inchallenging, confronting and exposing the bigot who exists as a wart ofdisgrace on the North Port City Commission.
