| teddie...no...we always have a permit...we also have attorneys who bail us out, etc. we were arrested because we sat down in the middle of the street to stop the parade...when the police asked us to get up, we stayed awhile, then they picked us up! but they were pretty respectful..we were told not to be violent, and to respect the police..i think thats why they let most of us go...let me tell ya tho...those plastic handcuffs are weird! we were a mixed group of old, young, white, black, asian, and indian...we have a Four Directions march before the parade, and come from four directions in denver and meet on the courthouse steps..again...all four sacred colors of the nations are there...red, white, black and yellow....the drums support and call us...there is sage in the air..we all smudge before we go on the Four Directions march and before we go to the parade to protest...we hear elders speak from all nations..the four sacred colors..last year my boyfriend and i were walking back from the parade, and people stopped us on the way and asked why we do this...so we got a great opportunity to explain our side...david and i talked to one young couple during the parade, and after they listened, they began to yell, "No More Columbus Day"!!!! lol! so they got it...we explained that we had nothing against Italian people, just Columbus being a "hero"...just like we have nothing against German peoples, but wouldnt want to see a "hitler day parade"!
