What kinds of opportunities are available for financial institutions in Indian country? How can both Indian tribes and financial institutions help increase access to credit on Indian reservations?
Join us in Scottsdale, AZ, on November 18-20, 2002, at the Federal Reserve System's Sovereign Lending: Banking Opportunities in Indian Country national conference and learn the answers to the above questions and more. This conference will showcase both national and local leaders in bringing banking services to Indian Country, and show you how you can build banking relationships with local Indian tribes. The morning general sessions are designed to offer depth and perspective on broad issues of providing financial services in Indian Country, such as the significance of sovereignty in financial transactions and the pros and cons of different types of financial institutions and resources. The afternoon breakout sessions offer a choice of topics for attendees, with some that will provide basic information for those with limited knowledge and experience, and others designed to help experienced tribes move to more advanced levels in providing financial services and leveraging financial resources. Most importantly, the conference is designed to offer participants tools that can be translated into action back home. We want people to leave our conference with a solid understanding of the "big picture," information about specific financial tools and resources, and with new relationships with resource people and potential partners. We think this combination can lead to housing and economic development and to strengthened local economies. Also, a grand reception at the famous Heard Museum, sponsored by Fannie Mae, and another reception sponsored by AMERIND Risk Management Capital Corporation. Several post-conference sessions are planned too. Here is a link to the conference brochure: http://www.kc.frb.org/indaffrs/2002main.htm I hope that you will be able to join us.
