I was talking to Ethleen Two Dogs today about starting a biker club for our
Reservation. I had talked to the organizers of the Black Hills Harley Owners
Club several days ago and we were invited to attend a meeting with them to
throw in with them. If we agree to, we can ride to Native American
destinations of interest, and they would assist us in raising money for
Reservation causes. The Black Hills Club also wants our participation to
secure an invite to tour the Reservation's points of interest. Rick Two Dogs
and I along with several others will go to Rapid City to meet with them.
Ethleen said her and her husband Rick have been working on securing a place
near Sturgis for an entirely Native American campground for bikers during
the Sturgis Rally. One of our Tribes, I believe it's the Rosebud Tribe, owns
land near Bear Butte that has good facilities and several large buildings.
Things look good so far, although the project is still in the planning
stages. If Rick and Ethleen can secure the area at no cost then, of course,
camping will be free there for Native American bikers. Rick Two Dogs is one
of our spiritual leaders and there will be Native American Cultural events
scheduled there as well. Not for the benefit of tourists but to develop some
unity between all who come and participate at Bear Butte.
They envision Native American bikers from all across this country who
represent a great number of Tribes.
This will be a memorable event. If anyone is interested let them know. Let
us know so we know how much to expect.
