The following is an interesting reply to the delema faced by the caller to
the BIA official when his excuse for livestock impoundments of elderly
Dineh resisters was: "it's the law, ma'm."
Additionally, Peabody Coal has been violating environmental laws, the Hopi
Police have used unlawful intimmidation, burial grounds have been
desicrated, basic human rights have been violated, etc. NO, IT IS NOT THE
LAW, AND WE AREN'T GOING TO STAND FOR IT ANY LONGER!!!!

Hi Eva,

You said you spoke with Honanie and he felt secure saying "It's the law,
ma'm!" It took a major bloodbath of 6 million Jews, 11 million total in
concentration camps, and a war that killed about 45 million, for
international law to recognize that what is said by some government(s) to
be "law" or "orders" does not make the actions acceptable and that some
laws and orders must not be followed, that the laws are in fact illegal and
contradict the rights of man. Merely following orders does not remove
personal responsibility.

The US government has been following unconscionable laws for generations.
These laws are designed to mask and to remove the rights of native peoples
and to allow the employees of the government to act with impunity to
destroy the people and the land. Because a law is made does not make it
right or that a person must obey that law. Many laws are necessary and ok,
but the laws which are forcing the people of Black Mesa off of their land
and "allowing" the US and Hopi governments to steal their animals are wrong
and immoral and cannot be obeyed. One acceptable approach for people
involved in these affairs is to resign from their position; in this way,
they will not be carrying out these evil deeds and will not come into
conflict with the legal system through their refusal to obey invalid laws
and orders.
