I posted a note about this on the First Nation's BB just before I saw your
comments. This is an important event to keep track of. Just by
publicizing and questioning (and by building solidarity with the People of
Columbia), we might thwart the schemers!
Here's what I said:
Three activists visiting indigenous people in Columbia were kidnapped and
killed. The governments of the US and Columbia are blaming the FARC for
this horrible
crime, as they often kidnap foreigners for ransom. However, they have not
been proven to execute their captives. This looks very suspicious to me.
First of all, these native people have won court orders preventing the oil
companies from drilling in their lands. Second of all, the U.S. has been
trying to become more involved in the war against rural people in Columbia
in their hysterics against cocaine production there. Third, I find it
suspect that the FARC would do
something that woyld foster an antagonistic attitude between them and the
Native People with whom they live in proximity. Finally, the government of
Columbia is so corrupted by cocaine money that they should certainly not be
trusted to deal truthfully with subjects that have underlying economic
ramifications. They may try to use this as an excuse to launch an invasion
of the area and invite U.S. participation. Of course, they will remove the
Native People there "for their saftey" and the oil companies will be able
to move in, but who will challenge Columbia's right to develop new sources
of national income? Anyone who wants more info on this can e-mail me and
I'll share what I have...
