I am the head Librarian at Oglala Lakota College which is located on the
Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in Kyle South Dakota. I would like to
promote a book called "Primal Awareness" written by Don Trent Jacobs a
supporter in the "Rights for Indigenous peoples." The book includes the
Raramuri people of Mexico
"who have resisted the ways of Western civilization and Christianity for
centuries by living the old ways in the maze of barrancas deeper than
Arizona's Grand Canyon." (Indian Country Today 10/98).
****In, 1983, caught in a violent rainstorm while kayaking the Rio
Urique in Mexico's Copper Canyon, Don Trent Jacobs was swept into an
impassable catacomb of underwater tunnels toward what he believed was
certain death. BUt instead of panic, Jacobs found himself filled with a
strange consciousness that left him feeling at peace and invigorated
with a confidence he had never before known. Moments later he was spit
from the tunnel alive - not at the end of his journey, but only at its
beginning*****
Don's book introduces a new learning theory based on traditional
indigenous perspectives. Part Creek/Cherokee author, Don Jacobs, is
Chair of the Education Dept. at Oglala Lakota College. He bases his
conclusions on his work with Raramuri Indians of Mexico and research on
other indigenous tribes.
"Don Jacobs has uncovered the roots of indigenous psychology that all
people share and that, once found, can lead to a harmonious living"
ED MCGAA, EAGLE MAN, author of MOTHER EARTH SPIRITUALITY.

available for purchase. All proceeds go to the Sierra Madre Alliance, a
nonprofit foundation working to preserve the Raramuri culture and lands.
