12/20/95 YNP and Montana release a draft environmental assessment of the
proposed revisions to the interim bison management procedures. The major
revisions include capture rather than shooting as the primary method of
removing
bison and a definition of the acceptable circumstances for bison tolerance on
public lands adjacent to YNP.

8/9/96 YNP and Montana issue a decision to implement the revised interim
bison
management plan and responded to public comments to the environmental
assessment.

1996-97 Early winter counts in September 1996 of 3,436 bison. There were
1,049
bison sent to slaughter or shot.

Here is an excellent example of the kind of lies that have been spread by
the state of Montana. They say they are going to capture buffalo instead of
shooting them and then the very next winter they slaughter 1,049 buffalo,
the largest single slaughter in the Yellowstone Park history. Probably the
largest slaughter in this century. But wait there's more!!!

3/95 The Montana legislature amends the authorities of Montana Department of
Livestock (DOL) and Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) for
the management of bison that originate from YNP and enter Montana.

1984/85 - 1994/95 total buffalo slaughtered 1554

MDOL takes over

1995/96 - 1997/98 total buffalo slaughtered 1493

So far this season 15

MDOL total kills 1508

Total buffalo killed since 1984 3062
