There was a misprint on the email address for Mr. Ron Jones, Sr.s daughter
Karen. The correct address is <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.
Please help the family of Mr. Ron Jones, Sr. get the investigation of his
death out of the hands of the illegal Onondaga Tribal Council and into the
hands of federal investigators.
For those of you who do not know Mr. Jones, he was an outspoken activist
who fought against the illegal State appointed Onondaga Tribal Council.
He was one of the people beaten by New York State Police and accused of
trespassing while protesting the New York State attempt to tax Indian
businesses on Tribal Land. The land that he was on during the protest was
his sons land and he was there with his sons permission.
On February 9, 1998 the State appointed illegal Tribal Council had
threatened to burn the homes of 19 families living on the Reservation
because they spoke out against the illegal Councils criminal actions when
they burned down the Onondaga Peoples businesses. Mr. Jones was told by
one family that the Council had given them and the other families 24 hours
to get off the Reservation. Upon hearing this Mr. Ron Jones, members of his
family and others, left that night for Washington D.C. The next morning,
February 10, 1998, they filed formal complaints with the Justice Department
and the Department of Tribal Justice. They let them know that the media and
the world was going to be informed about what was going on at Onondaga.
Because of this , the illegal Council backed off on their threat.
On February 10, 1999 Mr. Jones and two others went back to Washington D.C.
and filed papers in the U.S. Supreme Court accusing the illegal Onondaga
Tribal Council of Human Rights violations and of Genocide against the
People of the Iroquois Confederacy. He arrived home from Washington, on the
morning of February 11, 1999 and was found dead in his burned home that
same day. It appears that the threat made over a year ago still remains.
When his family requested to see the body, the Medical Examiner would not
allow it because the body was burned beyond recognition. However the family
latter found out from the man who found Mr. Jones body that only his arm
was burned and falling debris had protected the rest of his body from the
flames.
The family of Mr. Jones went to the BIA to request that the incident be
taken out of the hands of the Tribal Council and requested that the
incident be investigated on a federal level. The Tribal Council told the
BIA that this was a local problem and that they would handle the
investigation.
Your help is urgently needed to help the Onondaga Nation and this family to
obtain justice.
