The serology test which us utilized tests for an elevated level of antibodies in the blood of the buffalo. It does not directly test for the organism. Elevated levels of antibodies can result from exposure to the organism OR to things like stress on the animal. It also may be an indicator that the buffalo has been exposed, defeated the disease, and is now IMMUNE. They may be killing the animals which are not susceptible to the disease.
