lies in wait

i heard the rattle
like bones in a box
the kind that they've
kept our peoples remains
in all this time

the rattle of lies
untruths
becomes a thunderous
noise in my ears
in my dreams
but its only a rattle

a rattle
like too much talk
in a nervous encounter
click-clacking of tongues
loud discordant music
to drown out deception

but it lies waiting
not a clatter
but surround sound
a noise like a thousand thunders
truth

cannot be kept in a box
in a plastic realm
or wood
or within the minds
the hearts
its territory is boundless
like its voice
it runs like a million rivers
singing in unison
with the stars humming
in chorus

the truth is there
always
loudly hidden at times
but there
sometimes buried
neath more lives and deaths
than one could imagine
but it remains

behind backs marked with
not sunlit yellow streaks
but with chill to the spine answers
it lingers
waiting
behind cryptic words
and hidden double meanings
it sits
biding its time
to burst forth one day
in a song that will split the sky
and the hearts of some

and the rattle will be gone
and the weary shall at long find rest
