My son and many others are fighting for the right to wear their hair long
(traditional) against the California Department of Corrections laws (signed
by Governor Wilson effective June 1998) that all inmates must have their hair
cut short. My son is 32 years of age, Yoreme (Mayo) we are related to the
Mountain Pima people and our language is a dialect of the Pima (o'ohdom)
language. I would like those who would offer moral and spiritual support to
write to him as follows:

Yes. My son and 14 others who's names are going to be furnished to me within
the next week or so, have asked my husband (who is Lakota) and I to set up a
web page for them, if possible, they have named themselves the "Soledad 15"
and are all fighting for their right to wear their hair in the traditional
manner, some lawsuits have been filed on behalf of other prisioners
(injunctions) but all have failed to date. Another lawsuit is currently
being prepared on their behalf and will shortly be filed with the Federal
court. I will pass on the information I receive if you wish. Pilamayay.
