Some of you know, we have been trying to do some things to help out the
folks on the Pine Ridge reservation. I decided the best quickest way right
now is to e-mail every address I have. Some of you already know what I'm
talking about & some may not. If you want to learn, check such web sites
as: www.soulzone.com/commzone/nonprofi/agp, www.dickshovel.com/Wagner,
First Nations & Lakota Links, to name a few.

Through the years much has happened to Native Americans that has eaten away
& damaged their culture, Blame can be thrown everywhere and back again.
Cause, effect and personal issues can be discussed for weeks on end. Dave's
and my bottom line is that there are people, kids and elders, cold &
hungry, or should I say freezing & starving to death on some reservations.
We want to help. There are many groups out there that are trying, but they
all need funds, and I unless I sit @ this machine 23 hours a day, I can't
locate who does what where. I have been in touch by phone and mail
personally with some people on the Pine Ridge Reservation in SD. For those
of you who aren't aware, Dakota winters are pretty damn cold - like 10-30
below for weeks on end. Last week I found a family with 7 kids had been out
of propane for heat. We were able to charge 2-3 weeks worth by phone on our
visa with the propane co. there. Yesterday another family with 8 kids, ran
out. 2 homes with elders have a few days worth left. There isn't enough
money to get any. The company only delivers a min. of $75 worth and that
has to all go in one tank - can't be divided between neighbors. These
people live on the eastern edge of the reservation - about 100 miles from
tribal offices etc. They have been told all fuel allotment or vouchers are
gone. (please, if you haven't already, read about the situation there. You
will be shocked that people in the US have to live this way) I have asked
my friend if we could get a credit balance for she and her neighbors of
about $150, could they jointly match it? She says she thinks they might be
able to. So, I am asking you to please donate to this fund. It is not truly
tax deductible. This is just a temporary emergency account Dave & I are
setting up. I will be contacting the company tomorrow and opening it with a
$50 credit. If each of you can even put in $1,$5, $20 or more it will help
keep some people warm for a few weeks, until we can locate some other help.
The phone number is 605-685-6711 if you want to put it on your Visa/MC or
mail a donation to Bennett County Co-Op, P.O. Box P, Martin, SD 57551 with
a note that it is designated to the Eastern Pine Ridge Emergency Fund c/o
Rotering & DuBray. I can't begin to tell you what warm wonderful friendly
people I have been talking to there. But they are they ones able to afford
a phone and even have a source of heat. Folks, believe me, the situation is
like that of a 3rd world country. I won't give the horrible details of
elders found dead from exposure. As most of you know our address is P.O.
12997, Prescott, 86304 & phone (520)776-0073. Whether you can or can't
donate, please print this out and pass it to a few people you know. World
peace can really happen, one person, one step at a time, starting in out
own country. Thanks for listening to me. Love Candy
