HALIFAX - The Minister of Natural Resources in Nova Scotia says attempts
to find a settlement in the native logging dispute have hit a snag. Kennie
MacAskill says the province's refusal to sign away title to all Crown lands
could have an impact on the talks.

Mi'kmaq chiefs want the province to hand over title to all lands and
waters, then negotiate to buy them back.

The minister responsible for aboriginal affairs says he is not about to
do that. The Mi'kmaq say the courts will now be asked to rule on the
question of aboriginal land title.
