And now:Ish <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes: Approximately three hours ago what appeared to be an electrical ripple created wavy lines across my computer screen. Like electric current slightly out of sync. Two hours ago the local news station began coverage of an explosion at the Ford Motor Company Power Plant in rouge, Michigan, 20 miles or so east of here. Current news states the situation is serious, number of injuries unknown, all available ambulance and fire services have been dispatched to the scene. As recently as November a joint operation with DTE was announced. http://www.cmsenergy.com/cmsnews/release_574.html DEARBORN, Mich., November 5, 1998 CMS Energy Corporation (NYSE:CMS) and DTE Energy Services (NYSE:DTE) today jointly announced a major new 550-megawatt cogeneration project which will serve all of the electric and steam needs of both Rouge Steel Company and Ford Motor Company at the Rouge complex. CMS Energy and DTE Energy Services will form a new company, to be known as Dearborn Industrial Generation, L.L.C., which will build, own and operate a facility with a construction cost of $240 million. The plant will replace the output of the aging Rouge powerhouse with clean, natural gas-fueled power. CMS Energy's international power subsidiary, CMS Generation Co., will hold 70 percent ownership and manage construction, fuel procurement and operation of the plant while DTE Energy Services will own 30 percent of the project. CMS Energy has signed a letter of intent with Ford and Rouge Steel to provide up to 400 megawatts of electricity and 1.7 million pounds per hour of steam from Dearborn Industrial Generation, for a contract period of 15 years. Definitive agreements between the companies are expected to be finalized by December. The Dearborn Industrial Generation project will be fueled by approximately 100 million cubic feet per day of natural gas and blast furnace gas, a by-product of the steel-making process. The plant will utilize two high-efficiency natural gas combined cycle units with heat recovery steam generators, three blast furnace gas/natural gas boilers and one steam turbine to simultaneously produce up to 550 megawatts of electricity and 1.2 million pounds per hour of industrial process and heating steam, which will be utilized by Ford and Rouge Steel. The new facility is expected to significantly reduce air emissions compared to the output of the old powerhouse. "Dearborn Industrial Generation is a major new cogeneration project which represents the first significant addition of power in Michigan since 1990 and we are pleased to provide service to Rouge Steel Co. and Ford Motor Co.," said William T. McCormick, Jr., CMS Energy's chairman and chief executive officer. "The power generated in excess of Ford and Rouge Steel's needs will be available to serve Michigan's growing need for electricity and provide additional contract or merchant power on a competitive basis," McCormick added. ..................................... Another interesting aside, Rouge plant of the Ford Motor company was built on top of one of the largest Indian Burial Mound structures in SE MIchigan...
