THYROID DISEASE STUDY COVER-UP EXPOSED! - NEGLIGENT CONCLUSIONS!!
The Hanford Thyroid Disease Study (HTDS) released this week was broadly
interpreted by the media to show no link between Hanford exposure and
thyroid disease. This finding is simply not true! That is not what this
study was designed to ask! The HTDS Study funded by the Center for Disease
Control asked the question, " What is the relationship between Iodine-131
low dose and high dose exposure and is there any correlation in increased
thyroid disease incidents? Or in plain English, if you got low doses of
Iodine 131 and high doses of Iodine 131, is there any increase in thyroid
disease between the different estimated doses? This is a much different
question than what what was reported in the news which assumed that the
scientific questions asked was, is there an increase in thyroid disease
from the Iodine-131 releases from Hanford?
What the researchers did was basically take a group of exposed people
(people who grew up in the Hanford area in the high exposure years)
commonly called "downwinders" and then look for an increase in thyroid
disease based on increased estimated dosage. The dosage was based on
personal interviews relying on people's memory of events in the forties and
fifties. No unexposed population (control group) was used in this study!
All the study really shows is that regardless of the level of estimated
radiation exposure, thyroid disease occurred. The numbers tell the true
story:
5,199 people were identified as exposed to Hanford radiation and
sought for the study
541 of the 5,199 were Dead and not included
395 refused to participate because of "illness or impairment"
(Noteworthy exclusion!)
3,441 were used as "living study evaluable participants"
With 3,441 study participants, the findings were the following for
thyroid disease:

IN ADDITION- 1,596 ULTRASOUND ABNORMALITIES WERE FOUND!
Read this HTDS Summary comment carefully. "This study found no evidence in
any of the analyses that increasing dose to the thyroid from Hanford
radiation was associated with an increased cumulative incidence of any of
the disease outcomes or thyroid laboratory tests." That is all this
study can conclude. Any other conclusion drawn is just a public relations
effort. "These results should consequently provide a substantial degree of
reassurance to the population exposed to Hanford radiation that the
exposures are not likely to have affected their thyroid or parathyroid
health." With over 2000 cases of thyroid disease found in 3441 study
participants who were all exposed to Hanford's radiation, this is not a
logical conclusion that can be scientifically supported by this limited,
myopic study!
The study was completed in the fall, but the outcomes were not released
until last week. The time in between was spent on "risk communication,"
or how the study results should be presented to the public. There is an
obvious agenda here. If there is no impact perceived from Hanford, there
is no liability. There are no downwinders. This $18 million dollar study
is a sham.

Comments:
The Hanford study reads more as a legal document with ZERO risks and NO
health effects----no scientist dares to speak that way in the dose and risk
analysis.
More and more these studies use rediculous data to come to conclusions on
harm. They don't have unafected control groups for comparisions. The CDC
is by far one of the worst offenders in these studies. Others walk past the
sick in the community and all the blood and respiratory problems that are
known and do cancer only analysis and tell the sick there are no problems.
All beginning to look like a well rehearsed legal dodge of the bullet as the
White House says.
Hanford folks saw thru the cover up and now are firing on the bad science
and they need to go after the bad scientists in the CDC and some of these
other health studies that fail to protect the public health interests.
