I can vouch for one such program run by Sharen and John Sun Eagle from the Mattaponi Rez in Virginia. I know of 8 friends that have sponsored children and Elders both. John and Sharen have this set up in such a way that there is no charge to place a child or Elder on their Web site that needs a sponsor and you choose who you want. At that point she gives you the address and you give yours to give to the family of the person you wish to sponsor and from there you both make contact~~she also provides the exchange of telephone numbers if this is what both parties agree to. From then on you have contact and you send everything to the child or Elder directly and John and Sharen are out of the picture. Many of my friends have taken the time to actually visit these families on the reservations throughout the US and have gotten to know them and become a part of the family. Everything I have heard has been postive. I personally think they are wonderful people and love the way this is set up. Nothing goes to John or Sharen they are just providing a service of connecting the people in need with the people that want to help.
