They always have the same dumb excuse, isn't it? "The
logo/mascot is in no way intended to demean Aboriginal
People..." bla bla bla...
"And there is a connection with 'Indians now long gone'"...
bla bla bla...
But at least the golf club's board of directors has appointed
a committee to discuss the logo. Who knows; maybe they
will realize how highly offensive this particular mascot is and
change it?!

The Mississauga Golf & Country Club logo can be viewed
at: <http://kola-hq.hypermart.net/actmiss.htm>
and their regular mailing address is below... hint hint... :))
They don't seem to have an email address; so we are
printing out all petitions that were signed on-line and send
them monthly packets.

Dear Ms. Herten:

Your letter of February 22nd was received on March 17, 1999.

Please let me assure you that the Club's logo in no way is intended
to demean Aboriginal People or offend anyone. Rather, it is a
connection to the historical relevance of the Mississauga Indians
having once settled in these parts. The Club is proud of its history,
and any connection to the Mississauga Indians is intended only
in a most positive and respectful way.

The Club's logo was established many years ago, and takes its
roots from the Mississauga Indians who once settled on the lower
Credit River. The Mississauga Indians moved to the Six Nations
Reserve in 1847, and the Mississauga Golf & Country Club was
founded in 1906.

The Board of Directors of the Mississauga Golf & Country Club has
discussed your letter, and as a result has appointed a committee
to examine the Club's logo to determine if it should be changed in
view of the issues raised by your organization.

We will be pleased to inform you of the outcome of the committee's
endeavor in due course.

Sincerely,
