Global Ethics, Sustainable Development and the Earth Charter
April 6-16, 1999 (extended by one week!)
 The Earth Forum - http://www.earthforum.org

 Dear Friends,

The Earth Council is pleased to announce an extension to the Earth
Forum's inaugural on-line conference entitled "Global Ethics,
Sustainable Development and the Earth Charter." This "interactive event"
has been a great success so far, exceeding even our own optimistic
expectations. At the end of the first week, the "Earth Forum" website
has attracted more than 700 university students from at least 250
universities in 65 countries from around the world! A complete list of
the participants' universities/countries can be found here:

** NOW OPEN TO THE PUBLIC:
    http://www.earthforum.org

Starting on April 12, we will begin opening the Earth Forum website to
the "non-academic" community. While students from around the world
will still be active in the discussion forum, we would like to invite
you and your organization to visit the new website, review the 17
audio/video presentations (using the free RealVideo player), and then
offer your own comments and contributions alongside those of the
students. We hope that by opening up the conference website for the
final four days that the students and professors in attendance will
benefit from a variety of new ideas and approaches to this very
important subject and that you, too, will benefit from their lively and
 insightful discussions and debates.

Attached you will find a list of discussion areas associated with each
of the audio/video presentations. Each of the discussion areas is
moderated by the speakers themselves. Some of our speakers have even
been travelling during the past week but, through the "wonders of the
Internet," they have been reviewing their discussion areas and
addressing students' questions and comments nearly every day.

After April 16, the final day of the conference, the Earth Forum website
will remain fully accessible to the public, however we expect the
discussion fora to continue in an unmoderated or "semi-moderated" state
and that the RealVideo presentations will be replaced with
 RealAudio-only (to reduce bandwidth requirements/costs).

So, we hope you'll join us on-line throughout the remainder of the
week. We have an excellent group of speakers enthusiastically
supporting this unique experiment in "virtual conferencing," and we
welcome your comments and contributions to the on-going discussion.
