Cockney Rebel, April 23, 9 p.m. Chief Jim Billie To Appear In Music Concert,
April 23
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--April 17, 1999-- Singer,
songwriter and Seminole Chief Jim Billie will make a rare club concert
appearance, Friday April 23, when he takes the stage at the Cockney Rebel
British Pub for a 9 p.m. show.
Taking a break from the rigors of governing the lives and fortunes of
his 2700 Tribal members, the CEO of the Seminole Tribe of Florida will bring
along a host of special guests and a unique collection of haunting personal
songs from his new SOAR Records release "Alligator Tales."
"St. Petersburg has always been a special place for me. We've had
several great powwows here and the people have always treated the American
Indians with respect and courtesy," says Chief Billie, who is campaigning for
reelection to his 6th four-year-term as Chairman of the Seminole Tribal
Council. "We're gonna play music just like we do around the fire back home in
the Big Cypress Swamp."
Joining the Chief for this intimate concert in the Cockney Rebel
courtyard (1492 4th St. N.) will be special guests John McEuen (former Nitty
Gritty Dirt Band star and "Alligator Tales" Producer), Florida folk legend
Dale Crider, jailhouse bluesman Raiford Starke, and Florida state fiddle
champions J. Robert and Elan Chalford.
The Cockney Rebel show is the first in a four city tour that also has
Chief Billie and band appearing at Doc Watson's Merlefest festival April
29-30 in Wilkesboro, N.C.; at the Florida Folk festival in White Springs, May
29; and in a special show for the Navajo Nation June 12 in Window Rock, Ariz.
Chief Billie and singer Robbie Robertson were recently awarded the First
Americans In The Arts 1999 Music Achievement award in a Los Angeles ceremony.
The Chief's video "Ways Of The Glades" was also honored at Robert Redford's
recent Sundance Festival.
The Cockney Rebel is an authentic British Pub with a full menu of
British and American foods. Call Tina or Robert at 727-895-2049 for
reservations. For further information on Chief Billie, contact Dan McDonald
