(1) EARTH DAY SPECIAL ON DIFFERENT DRUMS!!
*****************************************************

Walt Bresette was a beloved man in the Lake Superior territory because he
brought people from different races together to love and defend the earth.

During the 1980s treaty struggle in Wisconsin, when non-Indian sportsmen
threatened tribal spearfishers, Bresette organized an interracial Witness
for Non-Violence to keep the peace.

In 1997 Bresette helped blockade a train carrying sulfuric acid across a
reservation, and a few years ago walked across Wisconsin carrying the
message of his proposed Seventh Generation constitutional amendment,
designed to legally ensure a healthy environment for our grandchildren's
children.

Walt Bresette died of a heart attack this past February, but his voice still
rings with clarity and good-humored wisdom, as he expresses the urgency of
caring for the health of this planet that is our mutual home.

This special Earth Day program honoring Walt Bresette incorporates a special
feature produced by Wisconsin producer Sandy Lyon, who has long been
associated with community radio station WOJB. Lyon was Walt Bresette's
partner in environmental work, and continues that work through the
organization Protect The Earth.

Information about Bresette and the organization that he founded can be found
on the Internet at http://www.protecttheearth.com

This sharing of the wisdom and honoring of the life of Walt Bresette was
created in response to a request from a Different Drums listener; we think
your station's listeners will also be moved by the still-living voice of
this dynamic Anishinabe leader.

(2) Earthsongs Program 16: Featuring Debora Iyall - Part II (April 22-26)
**********************************************************************
In Part two of our conversation with American Indian singer-songwriter
Debora Iyall*, she remarks on the commodification of our bodies through
commercial media. Not being packaged as a sex object "was the best thing"
for her development as an artist she says, as she launches the next sexual
revolution with tracks from her new band Knife In Water.

Also this hour, modern indigenous music from Burning Sky, Joanne Shenandoah,
Sudden Rush and Chief Jim Billie.

(3) Native America Calling PROGRAM SCHEDULE for April 19-23, 1999
**********************************************************************
HOST: HARLAN McKOSATO WELLNESS HOST: SHARON McCONNELL

MON - 4/19: Music Maker: Red Earth:
As promised, we bring you another hot young Native band on the rise. This
Albuquerque band will rock your socks off and have you dancing in the aisles
with their up tempo, high-energy sound. Join us as we introduce Red Earth to
Indian Country on our Music Maker Edition.

TUE - 4/20: The Holy Smoke:
On this edition of Native America Calling we take a look at the spiritual
and cultural uses of tobacco. With all the anti-smoking campaigns occurring
across the country at least everyone should know by now that smoking is bad
for your health, but in the wake of all these anti-tobacco campaigns what
are we doing to protect the ritualistic uses of this sacred plant? Guests
include Lawrence Shorty a traditional tobacco farmer.

WED - 4/21: Toxic Hot Spots:
The toxic threat to Indian Lands is still a persistent problem. Mining, bad
forest management, oil development and hazardous waste facilities still
plague the Native American frontier. On this edition of Native America
Calling we look at the environmental hotspots and look for ways to stop the
toxic threat. Guests include Jackie Warledo of Green Peace and Tom
Goldtooth of the Indigenous Environmental Network.

THU - 4/22: The Comedy Shop:
The comedy shop is open for business today and proprietor comedian Drew
LaCapa is having a two for one laugh-it-up sale. Come shop for laughs with
us on this special comedy edition of Native America Calling.

FRI - 4/23/99: The Language of Dreams:
Some Native traditions place great emphasis on the spiritual and visionary
importance of dreams. Other people feel dreams are mostly psychological,
with many coming from one's subconscious. Just what are dreams and what
can they tell us? Host Sharon McConnell and her guests will look for
answers on the next "Wellness Edition" of Native America Calling.
