**** Nuclear Free Great Lakes Action Camp ****
(Near Three Oaks, Michigan)
A coaliton of anti-nuke, environmental, and safe energy
organizations within the Great Lakes region haved joined together to
organize a week-long activist training camp August 13-20th, around issues
related to nuclear power and renewable and/or safe energy. The workshops
will cover the fundamentals of organizing along with more issue specific
topics.
The purpose of the camp is to empower, educate, and train
activists, student leaders and the general public around issues
pertaining to nuclear power and its alternatives. We hope it will
educate and energize both new and old blood as well as serve as a
starting point for cooperative, long-term, multi-issue organizing
efforts throughout the region.
Childcare will also be available to those who need it.
Workshops include:
Non-Violence, Organizing 101, History of the movement, Media
strategies and tactics, Campus organizing, Community
organizing, Fundraising/Organizational development, Environmental
justice, Engaging the NRC, Monitoring, Planning non-violent Direct Actions,
High level nuclear waste, Y2K, Renewables and Efficiency, Nukes and global
warming, the weapons connection, Lobbying, Deregulation, Native Rights and
Uranium mining, etc.
