And now:LISN <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes: Subject: Fwd: Anderson R*dskins-HELP NEEDED/CZClist/Braves Protest Date: Sun, 22 Aug 1999 00:03:26 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] *****PLEASE DISTRIBUTE TO ALL LISTS, FORUMS, FAMILY, and FRIENDS***** (if you wish to be taken off this list email [EMAIL PROTECTED]) (**This is a long message, but contains alot of very important info - PLEASE READ) Part 1 of 4 There will be a protest against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday, September 1st from 6-8pm in Cincinnati, Ohio at Cinergy Field (on the northwest corner at the flagpoles). Let's show people how we feel about American Indians being stereotyped for America's Fun and Games! There are some simple guidelines that must be followed at the demonstration: no alcohol, no weapons, no drugs, and no abusive language allowed. For more information please call (606) 341-2406, or (513) 232-0362, or email [EMAIL PROTECTED] We hope to see you there. Part 2 of 4 ANDERSON R*DSKINS - HELP NEEDED I'd like to start this part off with a quote from the June 28th, 1999 Forest Hills Local School District Board of Education meeting by US History Teacher Andy Wolf: "Your people came here a few generations before from Asia. You are no more native than I am. You just got here first......Mr. Jones, I saw the videotape from the first meeting, I'd just like to offer this - maybe it's time we looked at our own houses. But I'll make you this deal to most tribes in America (he's now the treaty maker?! or should we say breaker), live under the same laws I do: no more reservations, no more tribal law and tribal courts, no more gambling on reservations (but off?), no more dressing up tall blonds in little Indian suits to be waitress' at those gambling casinos, no smoking dope at religious ceremonies, no more killing (gasping heard in the audience at former statement, so he stops and address' the dope statement) that is true, come on, that's the law (and continues interrupted statement)...killing whales, or pillaging the salmon waters of the Northwest just because an old treaty says so. We both have a lot of things to fix. And I'll tell you what, I guarantee ya I'll still teach good things." I know, you're left wondering, did you teach good things to begin with? We're putting out another call for support. Since we began this campaign four months ago, we've only recieved 10 letters of support. 2 of them were from organizations (the Cincinnati Chapter of the NAACP, and ALLY), none of them from American Indian organizations. We're being told at the meetings that American Indians really don't care about this issue. We need support from organizations and individuals to let them know that, infact, American Indians do care about this. Of course we also would like anyone else to write, to let them see that all sectors of the American public agree too. We have recieved several guestbook comments, a couple of emails to SuperIntendent Patzwald, and a few letters, and we're very grateful for each and every one of them. If you have sent these things, but have not sent us copies (or it got returned in the mail), let me know - and if you still have a copy on file, please get us a copy. The quote written above is a fine example of what we're up against here. At the July 19th meeting where they voted unanimously to keep the name, the same man quoted above got a standing ovation when he entered the room! He is the chairperson of the Save Our Skins group that formed in opposition to us. His group is the one who called us terrorists, convicts, and manic depressives who were just as bad in our misinformation campaign as the Nazi's were. He got up there in July and said more racist comments, and referred to a sacred pact between the 'Sioux' and the Seneca, saying that the Mississipi River is the line they'd never cross to get into eachothers internal tribal politics, and therefore, if Mr. Jones (a Hunkpapa Lakota) honored his tribe he 'is several hundred miles out of bounds.' (to see more quotes from this meeting, please visit http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/1364/fhsbm071999.htm). And for this, he once again got a standing ovation. Several other members of SOS didn't even address the mascot issue, their sole purpous was to make us look bad - talking on nothing more than the "murderous" Leonard Peltier. *We attended their August meeting and the board chose not to respond. I know this is almost too much to hear, and it makes one very mad. But we still ask that letters remain respectful when writing them. Part 3 of 4 I want to remind everyone that if they wish to continue getting this information via email to please sign up for the new CZC-updates list. I will continue to send out these mass emails for the next 3 weeks, after that I will no longer send you updates if you haven't signed up. To sign up please visit this website below: http://www.onelist.com/subscribe/CZC-updates. There is an application to fill out, all one must give is email address, the rest is optional. Part 4 of 4 If anyone knows of existing information, resolutions, academic research or articles that address either the R*dskins name, the Squ*w name, or the mascot issue in general and where to get it, I'd appreciate you letting me know about it. I already have the NAACP, GLITC, NCAI, WIEA, and the American Jewish Committee Resolutions. I already have the paper by Fenelon, the questions and answers by Barb Munson, and the info from Matthew Richter. I'm doing research on these, to prove to the board that there is academic research to back us up (you see, an Andersonian found a book that did not agree with us on the term R*dskin....I want to prove there are academic researchs that do agree with us. I also want to prove that some American Indians do find these terms offensive!). Any info given will be greatly appreciated! Please forward messages concerning this to [EMAIL PROTECTED], or send it via snail mail to: LeeAnn McNabb, PO Box 30401, Cincinnati, OH 45230. -END- --
