Urbana, IL.  Dr. LaNada Boyer, a student leader from UC Berkeley in the
takeover and occupation of Alcatraz Island in 1969, will explain the goals of
the newly founded Earth Millennium Consortium and the upcoming  30th
Anniversary of the “Takeover of Alcatraz Island”  celebration. This
presentation will take place on Friday, October 15th, 1999 at 1:00 PM, at the
Wesley Foundation in Urbana, Illinois, as part of "Mending the Circle" a
Symposium organized by the National Coalition on Racism in Sports and the
Media.  There will be a Press Conference at 5 PM in the West Lounge of the
Wesley Foundation.

Dr Boyer proposes to revisit the issues that brought on the Alcatraz takeover
and for this purpose, she has founded the Earth Millennium Consortium as a way
to coordinate other organizational efforts, bring people together and fund
raise, not only for the Anniversary event but for a continuous public relations
campaign to educate the public.These issues include the following:    
         1.The New California Indian Wars regarding the tribes economic survival
through Gaming and Indian Casinos 
         2. The diminishment of Ethnic Studies, Black, Asian, Chicano (Hispanic)
and Native American Studies in California;  
         3. The abolishment of Affirmative Action; 
         4. Repatriation and Establishment of Native American Indian Memorial; 
         5.The Shoshonean Nation Land Claims 
         6. The anti Nuclear protest on Indian lands; 
         7. Negative stereotyping  in sports and the media of Indian people and
our culture. 
         8. On-going anti-Indian legislation in Congress;
