I already discussed this with Christian on IRC: I think this behaviour is definitly an improvement over the current, but I think it should be consistent with what we do with the selection/context menu issue. (Which column does what, when?). So I'd prefer to punt this for now until we got that hammered out and had time to play with it - It'd be strange to introduce this behaviour now and change it to something different for 2.14 again. Also it might have a11y implications, since it makes dropping slightly more difficult (if you try to hit a folder).
