Isn't this what we have now? Currently, templates are terribly undiscoverable
and underused.

In any case I'd like to bring the following bug to everyone's attention now
that we're discussing templates:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=306729

Basically it's about support for application specific template files that have
different extensions from regular files.
