This is another option. I like the kaio because it saves you
yet-another-thread to manage. And it perfectly fits in the
non-blocking operation of the driver thread. One can evaluate
both options and then decide. Somehow I have the feeling that
kaio would be simpler to fit into the current code (I might
be wrong though)
