Hi,

I would like to use the complete planet map in navit. However, the
latest map is approx. 4.1 GB. As I have to store the map on a FAT32
formatted SD card I cannot use map files that are larger than 4 GB (due
to the file size restriction of FAT32).

I figured that an older and smaller map from earlier this year would be
sufficient for me. Therefore I downloaded planet-100217.osm.bz2 and
tried to convert it to a bin file using maptool from Debian unstable.

When I
bzcat planet-100217.osm.bz2 | maptool planet.bin
then all I get is a long list of unknown tag warnings such as

WARNING: unknown tag in <changeset id="189999"
created_at="2008-08-11T11:22:43Z" closed_at="2008-08-11T13:00:29Z"
open="false"  user="B10xyz" uid="17602"/>

Empty files boundaries_.tmp, turn_restrictions_.tmp and ways_.tmp are
created, but no data is written to my harddisk. I get the same results
when I use the latest SVN build of maptool. Am I doing something wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Arno
