To be frank, it was not an expected feature to give translated names to map files. I was only translating GUI ;-)

But now it looks like a useful feature to have maps named exactly as download menu items. Anyway, we translate interface items, because we expect that somebody could be unfamilar with English. Then why should we to keep untranslated names on SD card?

I think we have no other way for transitional period, besides having to remove old maps manually. If we attempt any automatic name correlation, we could delete something that user had no intent to.

Do you think we should add some user friendliness to aid transition?

Last navit versions save map file using nation translated name instead of the English name.

So if I try to update maps, navit downloads correctly the update map file and saves it using the nation translated name. After download, /mnt/sdcard/navit directory contains two map files, for example it contains Italy.bin (old map file) and Italia.bin (new map file). The side effect is: If I use the "Download maps" menu inside navit to show the Downladed Maps, it show two maps: Italia and Italy.

Then I should remove manually the old map file. Is the expected result?

Hi, Tullio!

Sounds like you consider new map file naming schema to be a bug...

Can you please explain your position?

I updated navit to r5600 nightly build on my android phone. I use successfully an old r5553 nightly build to download maps.

This navit version creates a filename map with the nation name translated. For example it creates Italia.bin file map instead of Italy.bin.
Best regards,
