Where Will Christians Be in Eternity? Dear Friends in Christ,
The medieval notion of Christians going to an ethereal heaven and
sitting on clouds with harps in our hands doing not much all day is not
supported by any Bible verses that I can find. Instead, the Biblical emphasis
seems to be that wherever it is that Christ is for all eternity, that is where
we will be. The important thing is that we are WITH HIM.
Below are quite a few verses that describe this. The creation of
new heavens and the new earth is revealed, and we will be there. But there is
the eternal city which comes down from heaven, and we will be there also. It is
perhaps that we will live in the New Heavens, and go to work on the new earth,
because at one point we will be judging the 12 tribes of Israel.
But the thing to keep in mind is that whether we understand all
this or not, it will be and operate as God has created it and ordained it to
be, regardless of our understanding or opinions about it.
God Bless you as you ponder His Word.
In Christ..brother bob...<>< John 14:2-3
(KJV)
In my Father's house are
many mansions:
if it were not so, I would
have told you.
I go to prepare a place for
you.
{3} And if I go and prepare
a place for you,
I will come again, and receive you
unto myself;
that where I am, there ye may be
also.
John 17:24
(KJV)
Father, I will that they also,
whom thou hast given me,
be with me where I am;
that they may behold my glory,
which thou hast given me:
for thou lovedst me before
the foundation of the world.
John 12:25-26
(KJV)
He that loveth his life
shall lose it;
and he that hateth his life in
this world
shall keep it unto life eternal.
{26} If any man serve me, let him
follow me;
and where I am, there shall
also my servant be:
if any man serve me, him
will my Father honour.
2 Pet 3:10-13
(KJV)
But the day of the Lord will
come as a thief in the night;
in the which the heavens shall
pass away with a great noise,
and the elements shall melt with
fervent heat,
the earth also and the works that
are therein shall be burned up.
{11} Seeing then that all
these things shall be dissolved,
what manner of persons ought
ye to be
in all holy conversation and
godliness,
{12} Looking for and hasting
unto the coming of the day of God,
wherein the heavens being on fire
shall be dissolved,
and the elements shall melt with
fervent heat?
{13} Nevertheless we, according to
his promise,
look for new heavens and a new
earth,
wherein dwelleth
righteousness.
Mat 26:29
(KJV)
But I say unto you, I will
not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine,
until that day when I drink it new
with you in my Father's kingdom.
Luke 12:32-34
(KJV)
Fear not, little
flock;
for it is your Father's good
pleasure to give you the kingdom.
{33} Sell that ye have, and give
alms;
provide yourselves bags which wax
not old,
a treasure in the heavens that
faileth not,
where no thief approacheth,
neither moth corrupteth.
{34} For where your treasure
is,
there will your heart be
also.
Luke 23:43
(KJV)
And Jesus said unto him,
Verily I say unto thee,
To day shalt thou be with me in
paradise.
2 Cor 5:6-8
(KJV)
Therefore we are always
confident,
knowing that, whilst we are at
home in the body,
we are absent from the Lord:
{7} (For we walk by faith, not by
sight:)
{8} We are confident, I say, and
willing rather to be absent from the body,
and to be present with the
Lord.
Phil 1:23
(KJV)
For I am in a
strait{Grk=perplexity} betwixt two,
having a desire to depart,
and to be with Christ; which is
far better:
1 Th 4:16-18
(KJV)
For the Lord himself shall
descend from heaven with a shout,
with the voice of the
archangel, and with the trump of God:
and the dead in Christ shall rise
first:
{17} Then we which are alive
and remain
shall be caught up together with
them in the clouds,
to meet the Lord in the air:
and so shall we ever be with the
Lord.
{18} Wherefore comfort one another
with these words.
Rev 3:21
(KJV)
To him that overcometh will I
grant to sit with me in my throne,
even as I also overcame,
and am set down with my Father in
his throne.
Rev 7:14-17
(KJV)
And I said unto him, Sir, thou
knowest. And he said to me,
These are they which came
out of great tribulation,
and have washed their robes,
and made them white in the blood
of the Lamb.
{15} Therefore are they before the
throne of God,
and serve him day and night in his
temple:
and he that sitteth on the throne
shall dwell among them.
{16} They shall hunger no
more, neither thirst any more;
neither shall the sun light on
them, nor any heat.
{17} For the Lamb which is
in the midst of the throne shall feed them,
and shall lead them unto living
fountains of waters:
and God shall wipe away all tears
from their eyes.
Rev 21:3-5
(KJV)
And I heard a great voice out of
heaven saying,
Behold, the tabernacle of God is
with men,
and he will dwell with them,
and they shall be his people,
and God himself shall be with
them, and be their God.
{4} And God shall wipe away all
tears from their eyes;
and there shall be no more
death, neither sorrow, nor crying,
neither shall there be any more
pain:
for the former things are passed
away.
{5} And he that sat upon the
throne said,
Behold, I make all things new.
And he said unto me,
Write: for these words are true
and faithful.
Rev 21:9-27
(KJV)
And there came unto me one
of the seven angels
which had the seven vials
full of the seven last plagues,
and talked with me, saying,
Come hither, I will show thee the
bride, the Lamb's wife.
{10} And he carried me away in the
spirit to a great and high mountain,
and showed me that great city, the
holy Jerusalem,
descending out of heaven
from God,
{11} Having the glory of
God:
and her light was like unto a
stone most precious,
even like a jasper stone, clear as
crystal;
{12} And had a wall great and
high, and had twelve gates,
and at the gates twelve angels,
and names written thereon,
which are the names of the twelve
tribes of the children of Israel:
{13} On the east three gates; on
the north three gates;
on the south three gates; and on
the west three gates.
{14} And the wall of the city had
twelve foundations,
and in them the names of the
twelve apostles of the Lamb.
{15} And he that talked with me
had a golden reed to measure the city,
and the gates thereof, and the
wall thereof.
{16} And the city lieth
foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth:
and he measured the city
with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs.
The length and the breadth and the
height of it are equal.
{17} And he measured the wall
thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a
man, that is, of the angel.
{18} And the building of the
wall of it was of jasper:
and the city was pure gold,
like unto clear glass.
{19} And the foundations of
the wall of the city
were garnished with all manner of
precious stones.
The first foundation was jasper;
the second, sapphire;
the third, a chalcedony; the
fourth, an emerald;
{20} The fifth, sardonyx; the
sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolyte;
the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a
topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus;
the eleventh, a jacinth; the
twelfth, an amethyst.
{21} And the twelve gates were
twelve pearls:
every several gate was of one
pearl:
and the street of the city was
pure gold,
as it were transparent glass.
{22} And I saw no temple therein:
for the Lord God Almighty and the
Lamb are the temple of it.
{23} And the city had no
need of the sun,
neither of the moon, to
shine in it:
for the glory of God did lighten
it,
and the Lamb is the light
thereof.
{24} And the nations of them
which are saved shall walk in the light of it:
and the kings of the earth do
bring their glory and honour into it.
{25} And the gates of it
shall not be shut at all by day:
for there shall be no night
there.
{26} And they shall bring
the glory and honour of the nations into it.
{27} And there shall in no
wise enter into it any thing that defileth,
neither whatsoever worketh
abomination, or maketh a lie:
but they which are written in the
Lamb's book of life.
Rev 22:1-6
(KJV)
And he showed me a pure
river of water of life, clear as crystal,
proceeding out of the throne of
God and of the Lamb.
{2} In the midst of the
street of it, and on either side of the river,
was there the tree of life,
which bare twelve manner of fruits,
and yielded her fruit every month:
and the leaves of the tree were
for the healing of the nations.
{3} And there shall be no more
curse:
but the throne of God and of the
Lamb shall be in it;
and his servants shall serve him:
{4} And they shall see his face;
and his name shall be in their
foreheads.
{5} And there shall be no night
there;
and they need no candle, neither
light of the sun;
for the Lord God giveth them
light:
and they shall reign for ever and
ever.
{6} And he said unto me,
These sayings are faithful and true:
and the Lord God of the holy
prophets sent his angel
to show unto his
servants the things which must shortly be done.
Psa 73:23-25
(KJV)
Nevertheless I am
continually with thee:
thou hast holden me by my right
hand.
{24} Thou shalt guide me with thy
counsel,
and afterward receive me to glory.
{25} Whom have I in heaven but
thee?
and there is none upon earth that
I desire beside thee.
Psa 17:15
(KJV)
As for me, I will behold thy face
in righteousness:
I shall be satisfied, when I
awake, with thy likeness.
Heb 11:9-10
(KJV)
By faith he sojourned in the
land of promise, as in a
strange country,
dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac
and Jacob,
the heirs with him of the same
promise:
{10} For he looked for a city
which hath foundations,
whose builder and maker is
God.
Heb 11:16
(KJV)
But now they desire a better
country, that is, an heavenly:
wherefore God is not ashamed to be
called their God:
for he hath prepared for them a
city.
Heb 13:14
(KJV)
For here have we no continuing
city,
but we seek one to
come.
Mat 25:34
(KJV)
Then shall the King say unto
them on his right hand,
Come, ye blessed of my Father,
inherit the kingdom prepared for
you from the foundation of the world:
Luke 12:33-34
(KJV)
Sell that ye have, and give
alms;
provide yourselves bags which wax
not old,
a treasure in the heavens
that faileth not,
where no thief approacheth,
neither moth corrupteth.
{34} For where your treasure
is,
there will your heart be
also.
Phil 3:20-21
(KJV)
For our
conversation{Grk=citizenship} is in heaven;
from whence also we look for
the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
{21} Who shall change our vile
body,
that it may be fashioned like unto
his glorious body,
according to the working whereby
he is able
even to subdue all things unto
himself.
Psa 16:11
(KJV)
Thou wilt show me the path
of life:
in thy presence is fulness of
joy;
at thy right hand there are
pleasures for evermore.
