"right away" took slightly longer than expected. The issue wasn't critical, anyway. 3.16.1 has now been released. It has a two-line patch relative to 3.16, which makes the build work again if you set the --enable-syslog configure option (which really should be made the nonconfigurable default at some point... ah well).
