Just a reminder that tomorrow, Saturday April 21st is the East Montrose Home Tour. It looks to be a great event and I would encourage everyone to attend. Details are in the press release below.
Please pass along to your civic groups. Thanks! NEARTOWN RESIDENTS Important News and an Invitation to the sixth East Montrose home tour, which will take place Saturday, April 21thats next week! The East Montrose home tour committee has put together a truly fabulous array of houses for with several surprises. Our typical tours feature two or three remodeled bungalows and also an array of other, larger single family homes, some of which are remodeled older holes, others being new. This tour is different in that it features only two remodeled bungalow of the total five, and both are furnished in contemporary style--one in red. For the remaining three, two are very early 20th century houses with mega restylings--one with Georgian columns, a new pool and bathhouse and major contemporary art. The other began life as a single story raised cottage, now a two-plus story Victorian with period furnishings and currently in use as a gorgeous law office. A lifetime East Montrosian who was born across the street, will be on hand with 'before' photos and stories about the original colorful owners. The other, one of the handsomest houses in East Montrose, was totally remodeled over the past few years into an opulent residence for its owners, who had bought and remodeled a second, neighboring house to live in while redoing the first. The result is breathtaking and a must-see. Lastly, EMCA has made a major first-time departure this year by including a truly incredible brand new contemporary home, currently a nominee for the AIA Home of the Year award--located in the Avondale neighborhood, just across Fairview. The tour will issue in celebration of next year's 100th anniversary of Avondale, with its great history as the early home of famous individuals like Howard Hughes, Walter Cronkite and past mayors and governors. What's especially interesting about this almost 4000 square foot home is that it all began as a remodel and expansion of an older house, the project of which went terribly bad when the old foundation failed, necessitating an unintended start-over. The final result is cutting edge modern construction with phenomenal views. The Cast Party, or as previously called, the After Party, for home to\Ãwècø ur hosts, docents and volunteers, will take place at the newly finished and expanded Art League Houston building at 1953 Montrose Boulevard following the tour. Tickets are $10 for all five homes, and tickets may be purchased by PayPal by Friday the 20th at 5:00 p.m.(go to the East Montrose website for instructions. On the day of the tour, tickets may be purchased for cash or check at two of the houses: 511Peden or 2015 Crocker. Make your plans now for a day of fun and surprises! Come and meet your neighbors!
